A full powertrain delete is the best option for body-on-frame vehicle EV conversions to optimize weight savings, power transfer and simplicity. This means removal of the engine, transmission, driveshaft, axles and differential. In trucks and SUVs, the rear axles and differential lives inside a rear axle member that is a crucial chassis component, mounting the wheels to the truck via leafs springs.

Our custom De Dion axles allow for rear placement of an electric motor/differential between the two wheels. They include hub boxes for attachment of lug nuts and rotors to half axles directly from the motor's differential. Ditch the power-sapping differential gears, and simplify the usage of, for instance, a Tesla motor by negating the need for a regear.

These axles are the result of a lengthy design process and are fully TIG welded, heat treated and precision aligned to withing 0.010" on either hub box face, ensuring the ability to achieve proper rear end alignment. While they were designed to be drop-in compatible with '73-'79 Ford trucks, we can custom fabricate for any vehicle on lead springs (contact prior to ordering for custom kits).

Rear axle member deletion results in the simultaneous removal of OEM rear brake kits. We recommend purchasing the optional disc brake kit for our De Dion axles. This kit includes custom machined caliper mounts, Wilwood calipers and all associated hardware. Wilwood electronic parking break kits are also available and recommended for motors without parking break functionality.

Axles can be shipped as uncoated metal, or can be optionally powder coated to any color scheme desired for an extra fee. Please contact after ordering to discuss color choices.
